Try the CHKOUT command - if the object you are testing is a directory (you 
cannot check out a directory), you will get a CPFA0DA message, so monitor 
for that. If it does not exist, you will receive CPFA0A9. If the checkout 
was successful, it is not a directory and you need to check it in immediately.

The command first appeared at V3R1.
