I don't think the problem is with one copy of SNDEMAIL generating large quantities of emails, since we increment the file name. I think the problem is with two, or more, copies of SNDEMAIL running at the same time. And I base this on the fact that we had two processes that generate approximately 200 pieces of email. If you run them at the same time then you are going to have problems. However if you offset them by only 5 minutes then you're fine. My initial gut reaction was the process where it selects the sequence number was not designed for this kind of processing. RTVDTAARA/CHGDTAARA. However close scrutiny of the QZMF journal shows this is not the case. Each email in that journal does have a different .txt file. This leaves me with one of two possibilities. One, the two copies of SNDEMAIL are getting their wires crossed and are updating each others .txt file. Two, the QMSF jobs are getting their wires crossed and are reading each others .txt file. Or, the QtmmSendMail api, when it processes the .txt file gets it's wires crossed and starts reading each others .txt file.
