Two of the drawbacks of the save/restore approach are the time required to
restore the system, and the loss of all of the spool files. This company
saves a LOT of spool files, and we wouldn't be popular if they all
disappeared.

Subject: RE: Disk Replacement

In my experience, and of course YMMV, removing disks from service using
the process you describe is very time consuming. Especially when you
have to do it in groups of disks as you can't remove all of them at
once. I've found it much easier and faster to just do a GO SAVE/21,
replace all the disks, add to the ASP, restart parity, and then GO
RESTORE/21 (basically following the Backup & Recovery book).

If you're still committed to the process of replacing disks in groups,
pretty much everything is in the disk section in SST/DST. I'm not sure
exactly where it is documented, although I think the B&R book may
describe the process.
