Yeah, Tom, it surprised me. (Did I already say that?) It seems similar to 
the standard LF behavior, where a LF does not pick up a new field in the 
underlying PF until it is recompiled (assuming no field list in the 
DDS).  So I think I've seen a *FMT in the DMPOBJ of a view, and that still 
controls what is presented by the view, just as always.
