As far as I know, doing what you are asking is no big deal.

You can't use a tape in which objects have been SAV'd to it.  But instead of
using a SAVxxx command you just use the CPYTOTAP command.

You might also need to make use/changes to the tape file used, via the
CRTTAPF, CHGTAPF, or OVRTAPF commands. 

Probably easier and quicker just to FTP the data.
