Physically hot-swapping the afunctional half of a mirrored pair isn't a
problem, at least as long as it's in the hat. Getting the replacement
recognized, and getting the system to reestablish mirroring may have
required an IPL, and/or may have required some futzing around in DST, but
if so, then a better geek than I might be able to do it without an IPL.
Dunno. Not something I do every day. And the only reason we stock spares
around here is that we've got a lobotomized junk 500 lying around that we
got as barter, that serves us as a "parts machine." Some months ago, I
stuck a drive (or was it two) out of it into our 40S, after we'd had a
drive failure.

If it's not something we can pull out of the parts machine (like drives
for our 170), then we look on eBay, or go to one of the various parts
brokers we've dealt with in the past.
