When you see my actual question, you'll see why I put it here and not
PCTECH.

In looking for a better way of backing up PCs, I looked thru the archives.
Among the possibilities was using the regular windows backup and backing it
up to a file on the IFS, then use a SAV of the IFS to the iSeries tape
drive. I decided to try it with a backup of my PC that would take approx
1gb. It bombs on me with the following error:

"Windows was unable to save all the data for the file
\Device\LanmanRedirector\Qdilgard\Root\Backups\PCFiles\jlcrosby.bkf. The
data has been lost. This error may be caused by a failure of your computer
hardware or network connection. Please try to save this file elsewhere."

It usually gets well over halfway before failing. Doesn't fail at the same
spot each time, either. I then tried backing my PC up to another PC on the
network that had ample disk space. Worked fine. And fast. Then I tried a
600mb from a different PC to the IFS. Same error as my PC. This error
occurs whether I use a mapped drive to the IFS or not.

I assume it's an iSeries issue of some kind. IFS too slow maybe? V5R3 on a
270, looking at an i5 520. Any suggestions appreciated.

There were other suggestions in the archives such as a combination of Tivoli
and BRMS, but that just ain't gonna happen here because of the size of the
shop.

If we had in integrated xSeries server (or whatever it's called this month)
inside the iSeries, could it "share" the iSeries tape drive such that PCs
could back up directly to it? Probably not the best idea though if a dozen
PCs are trying to back up at once . . .

Thanks.
