Hi Dave: Well, the "other team" dont want to do anything other than start their jobs at a set time every day! So, thats why I want to copy/print the STMF to a print queue straight on the unix box. cheers, viji Dave Schnee <DSchnee@barsaconsul To: midrange-l@xxxxxxxxxxxx ting.com> cc: Sent by: Subject: Re: MIDRANGE-L Digest, Vol 3, Issue 1813 - Printing from IFS to a Unix Box midrange-l-bounces@m idrange.com 11/17/2004 10:46 AM Please respond to Midrange Systems Technical Discussion Viji: So long as you have actually created the correct data in the IFS file, it's no problem to get it to the Unix box as a "file". You can also get it there if it is stored as a QSYS.LIB DB2 file. The easiest way I've found is FTP. The iSeries has quite a capable FTP client and it can be driven with commands stored in another file (source PF, for example) which, if needed can also be generated for each transmission (e.g., if the names or directories or destinations need to change). This will not get it actually sent to the printer on the Unix box, but there are ways in Unix to notice a "new" file and do something with it (like copy it to the printer). Try it, you'll like it. This has to be sent to a Unix box using the LPR command. The problem is that the data will exceed 378 characters and so the spoolfile will not do. The thought is to create a variable record length file on the IFS. Now, can this file has to be sent to a print queue on a Unix box ? - The software is by ExStream. Is this possible from an AS400 CLP using Qshell commands? Is it possible at all? What with all the enhancements to Linux by IBM, I am hoping it is possible.... Has anyone done this before? Any help would be appreciated.
