Why don't they push them into pdf files? Check out the Batch Report Server 
product from RJS. I've got clients who are doing just that. At certain 
times throughout the year, they put those reports onto a  pair of CD's and 
hand one of them to the user. The other goes into off-site storage.

That would be my stance too.  But my client has spool files going back to
2000 (likely the date of their last migration) that they insist be kept. I
tried to tell them of the job overhead.  Just bad management.

We just tell them they will be losing their spool files.  They shouldn't
count on them for anything.  Our corporate policy is to not back up any
spool files.  And to delete all that are over a certain number of days - 
no
exceptions.

As long as we notify them - they accept it.  But the time we forgot to
notify them - hoo boy!
