Hi, "Action Pending" PTFs are also called "No IPL PTF's". They would have been PTFs that required an IPL prior for V3R1, but no longer do. What you have to do is to see what action needs to be taken (like for a tape PTF, varying off all tape drives) is displaying the "action required", and after such, then the DSPPTF process for this automatically applies the PTF. These PTFs, while highly effective in decreasing downtime (IPL), have proven to be expensive to IBM, so they are not being used as frequently as they should be. As V3R1 was about ten years ago, I have copied an IBMer who taught this to me, and if I'm wrong about anything, he will feel free to chime in. Every time we have a technical argument, the winner gets a pitcher of beer. At this point, I'm up about 32,767 pitchers, which is likely more than I can drink tomorrow. But he's a great guy.
