If you initialize the system, or not, passwords will still exist. There will be a password for QSECOFR, dedicated service tools, etc. Initializing the system will remove any user passwords, and should set IBM passwords back to defaults. However taping the last know user id's and passwords for QSECOFR and dedicated service tools to the outside of the box probably wouldn't hurt. Deleting a file does not remove the data from the disk. Technically a da##ed sharp operator can still find it. On the S/36 there was an option to write binary zeros all over the space previously used by the file when you deleted a file. The i5 doesn't have that. That's where initializing comes into play. It will reinitialize all disk units. But, I'll admit. I remove all my user data using DLTF, del, etc prior to running the initialize system.
