She has to learn about ODBC or OLE/DB. The MSDN library can help with how 
to do that in VB.

Once she has ODBC down, the rest is basically the same, no matter what the 
database she is connecting to.

Try going to

which is the InfoCenter page for iSeries Access for Windows Database 
Programming. There's lots to go on from there. Also, there are links to 
performance-related sites that should be looked at eventually.

Finally, go to <http://www.iseries.ibm.com/access/calib.htm> and look for 
the "Client Access for Windows 95/NT ODBC User Guide" link - this is old 
but still has some of the best information on ODBC to the iSeries. There's 
other info there, as well.
