Gotta agree with Al. Had an old CISC machine that we HAD to IPL every 8 weeks or it would run out of temporary addresses. And the rest of the machines we only IPLed every 8 weeks to put on ptfs, etc. Of course, the every 4 weeks machine would be our most critical machine. Good selling point - upgrade to RISC and cut our downtime in half. Older CISC systems and System/38's had 48 bit addressing, and could run out of addresses if not IPLed regularly. RISC systems have 64 bit addressing, and if you PTF regularly (every 6 months to a year), this is sufficient IPLing. Please respond to Midrange Systems Technical Discussion <midrange-l@midra nge.com> Hello, I am an RPG programmer and we have an Iseries 825. I was told by one of our operators that IPLs do not need to be routinely scheduled. Is this true? Is there any documentation I can refer to?
