I don't think there is any downside to the WRKRDBDIRE and deleting *LOCAL entry and recreating a new one. I recall doing this even on a production machine. Might be some SQL package objects from ODBC/JDBC that might use it but those can be deleted and will re-create automatically. If you do a WRKRDBDIRE you will most likely see the name you are referencing with a remote location of *LOCAL. You will have to delete and then add it back.
