Go the the IBM Service website http://www-1.ibm.com/servers/eserver/support/iseries/ to the Technical Databases link, then Preventative Service Planning link, read the Memo To Users for both V5R2 and V5R3. Also in the site is all the hardware & software that may no longer function at V5R2 and/or V5R3.
