Tom, > Does anyone out there know what a 6502 in a 40S can handle? Originally, it was only up to the 2GB drives. At some release (but I don't recall whether V4Rx or V5R1), it could take the 4GB drives for sure. I also have a 40S with the 7117 expansion, and I have it fully populated with 6607 (4GB) drives except for the load source which I left mirrored on a pair of 6606's. I don't know if support for the 8GB drives was every added, but can confirm that 6607 drives work nicely. And don't develop stiction near as often. I had replaced serveral 6606's while I ran them; I have yet to have a 6607 fail on me. >The used-equipment market can supply plenty of cheap replacements -- when part numbers are right. I think you can get by with any of the 6607's. Many of mine came in the cages used on larger systems, and I just removed them and installed the rails from my 6606 drives. If you need any bare drive 6606's, I still have a stack of them left on the shelf... :) Doug
