A good idea, but whom do you know with influence in IBM who really supports the AS/400? I know no one in IBM in the USA as I am out of touch with Rochester, etc., these days.

I was talking a couple of weeks ago to an IBM UK senior techie whom I have known for 15 years or more, and he said that the recently announced $1 billion investment in the AS/400 (iSeries, i5) was not for the AS/400 part that we are so used to but more for the more recent features that tend to make the i5 less distinguishable from the competition. He believed that RPG was not scaleable and that J2EE was the only way forward, etc.. I found the conversation somewhat depressing!

Agreed, Rob. An idea - we have got so used to sniping at IBM that this feels a
little strange, but here goes--something like let's tell anyone we can at IBM
that we appreciate the new efforts. And really mean it. An, at the same time,
ask for more. With some helpful ideas, maybe.

Just a thought - a little honey instead of vinegar.
