It's just my personal opinion but I think you mix SNA and APPN.
None of the documents said that APPN support will be discontinued.
Instead they say, that the suggested direction is to use "APPN via IBM's 
Enterprise Extender product" which I believe means that APPN support will 
remain in place.

dropped.
If you still need SNA, you can still use ANYNET, or your SDLC card (if you 
still have one).
