two quick ways I can think of are to TELNET to the same address you FTP to. Hopefully you get the 400's signon screen. the other is by the FTP "welcome" messages: C:\>ftp 1.2.3.4 Connected to 1.2.3.4. 220-QTCP at 1.2.3.4. 220 Connection will close if idle more than 5 minutes.
