Sometimes is a cost effectiveness issue.  We can buy a nice package for 
controlling our mixing machines that make PVC compound.  They've, however, 
wrote it based on SQL Server.
Alternative options:
- Write the whole system from scratch in RPG, etc to be native to the i5.
- Reverse engineer the existing system to be i5/os based.
- Make sure that we have the source and change all SQL Server interfaces 
to be DB2.
- Pay them to do the item above.
- Continue to replicate a little data from time to time.

Granted, replication grinds me a little too.  I have a developer that 
wants to replicate data from one i5 to another instead of using DDM or SQL 
CONNECT TO on an interactive basis.
