Keeping PowerPC technology in a mass market/consumer device ultimately means reduced per-chip costs across the board. To this end, it appears we're essentially swapping Apple's PPC usage for the XBox360. I was originally hoping the chips used by Xbox + Apple + a few IBM servers would be sufficient to drive down the unit price of the CPUs, potentially letting IBM create even cheaper entry-level i5 systems. So much for that. Maybe IBM can create an entry i5 based on the xBox PPC chip.
