Maybe you'd possibly consider usingCheck constraints on the database itself... you can use the CL command ADDPFCST.
But alas, as with 90% of the display files generated around here, there's no direct connection between the display file and ANY database file. :-(
Besides, who needs to generate display files off of physical files when you have QuestView at your disposal (and are the company that developed the thing)? ;-D
I couldn't find anything, either (you'd think there would be something similar to a feature in command definitions that does more-or-less what I wanted), and ended up biting the proverbial bullet, and coding the validation within the application, with the EXFMT and the validation in a do-until loop. Seems to work OK, but I haven't given it a whole lot of exercise yet.
