Had this problem with our old 270 also. Its been a while, but it was just
3-4 (pretty sure it was 3) rechargeable AA cells shrinkwrapped together. I'm
not sure it they were wired series or parallel, I didn't cut it open.

Nothing special though, anybody with a little skill could make up one of
these easy 

Having a battery shop deal with it if you are unsure is always a good idea.
Especially since the board this is attached to will be much more expensive
to replace if it gets fried.
