Consider learning SQL as basic survival skills in the modern world. SQL is everywhere and more and more on the AS/400. I see file I/O disappearing more and more and being replaced with SQL more and more. Once we get free format SQL in RPG (IBM, why did you put it first? Why, why!!), the move will accelerate. There are just so many advantages and a lot of the advantages of using file I/O are disappearing with IBM updating the AS/400 more and more and know that IBM is adding functionality that is SQL only, just makes it more so.
