"The new system takes the place of an AS/400 which as been
in place for 20 years. Maude said it was hugely reliable
with downtime "measured in minutes per year" but HSA
decided it was not a strategic platform for the future,
especially with the internet becoming more important."

This just shows the complete and utter misunderstanding of
people (ie image, as you said) and the machine.

It also shows that people don't understand what "the
internet" is, how it works, the capabilities of the AS/400,
etc.. etc...

And, of course, IBM marketing WebSphere over the machine
itself never helps. :) If they marketed it as an Internet
machine, then say "options are Websphere, Java, RPG, Perl.
etc.. etc..." it wouldn't be thought of as a
greenscreen/greenbar only machine. (which is probably what
their big white box was doing for 20 years).
