Ho, now I understand better. I know that UIM interpret those caracter as you 
want. But I do not know how to do that in a DSPF.

 We're already doing that.  There is an option to return the message text
with or withou those characters.  What I'm looking for is the system
routine that "sees" those characters and formats the message based on those
values, on the fly.  Maybe one of the DSM APIs?  Barbara?
