I have some customers using SAN, but most not. Those using it have a disproportionate number of problems, as opposed to using internal DASD. Many find that it becomes the "EMC Freedom of Employment Act". IBM becomes the company that they love to hate, they go elsewhere, and then feel that it wasn't to bad.
