IPL will regain storage, but after you go back into operations, the saved
storage goes away.

I can think of one reason: regaining storage.

Two examples of our system:
IPL after more than 5 months we regained about 9% DASD (from ±76% to
±67%)
IPL after 4 months we regained about 5% DASD from ±68% to ±63%).

It all depends of the size of DASD and workload, of course.
