Griz, Some things do act differently during a backup if you just bring it down to a restricted state and start backing up. Mostly with things many shops do not have, like IASP's, etc. So if you're using any of these, read up on them. I would recommend doing a WRKCFGSTS *NWS and varying all of them off prior to steps to bring your system into a restricted state. If you have any of these they may take some time to vary off. Then again, it takes awhile to do a PWRDWNSYS on your i5 so why wouldn't it take awhile to do the equivalent on a Windows or Linux box. You need to read the "Backup and Recovery Guide".
