My question is a spin-off from the discussion about "Best document formatting language". It seems to me that HTML is great for portrait and landscape "layout" but browsers have inadequate support for printer page setup. Browsers have File==>Page Setup menu dialogs, but is there a way for developers to specify page settings via markup language, styles, or JavaScript, similar to the way page-break attributes can be defined in CSS and referenced from JavaScript? I've seen a few XML/JavaScript examples that programmatically configure print settings in Internet Explorer, but the interface is via ActiveX component embedded in a page, which is not a great solution. Prompting users to manually configure browser page settings prior to clicking a "Print" buttton is a poor workaround, as Pete Hall complained about earlier. On the other hand, using a tool like Dreamweaver to design HTML templates, and programmatically generating HTML reports in RPG is fairly easy and very efficient.
