Matt,

I am not sure where the iSeries fits in but I have built quite a few
systems that use FTP and Java together to support file polling
processes. Java runs on just about anything and can run on your iSeries
to monitor your other platforms. You can also read files and run
commands via Java. Here is an article that may give you some ideas:

Subject: FTP Config Issue

I've got an issue with FTP that I'm not able to resolve. I've got a
need to send a file from a 370 to our FTP server. Once the file hits
the server(Windows 2003), I need to execute an external command using
that received file. Question: Is there a way to do this and is there a
convention on the server side to add to the list of valid FTP actions
that can be performed.

  TIA,

  Matt
