I'm pretty sure that any programmers in 1965 would have thought 5250
green-screen was just wonderful......  If I'm not mistaken, CRT based
terminals were somewhat obscure until the mid 70s.  GUI wasn't even invented
until 1973, at the Xerox PARC facility, and early non-commercial versions
cost $30,000+ per unit.....  

I guess it's all relative, but 5250 is really quite sophisticated.....

Since I was born and bred on a Windows platform, I don't really have an
interest in green screens (unless it is absolutely necessary).  I love
the iSeries for its stability, but I hate it's legacy UI.

I absolutely loathe the green screen.  This isn't 1965, so why should
the users be punished with an interface that fits that era?

A lot of our programs are developed for both web and green screen (gs to
keep the old-schoolers from complaining), and most (over 95%) of our
users prefer the web.

The only problem I see with VRPG (and please correct me if I'm wrong on
this point) is that the application(s) have to be installed on each and
every workstation.  I like using the web interface because all of our
workstations already have the functionality, so there's no software to
install.

Two things that will interest you.  :)

If someone knows VB or VC++ then of course they'd use those.  However us

old RPG folks already know RPG, so Visual Age RPG is a logical extension

of our skills.  IBM provided the means for us green screeners to update 
our applications to GUI but we ignored the opportunity.

Visual Age RPG is for the iSeries.  It deploys on Windows, but it is for

the iSeries.  The product builds either Windows dll's  or Java thingies,
