I wonder what OS/400 (i5/OS) would really cost if iSeries hardware were
priced like a pSeries or OpenPower server.

There already is hardware price parity between the systems. That came
with the i5 announcements. The real differences now are the various
software products that have to be financially successful. i5/OS is more
money than AIX because of the feature/function that comes in i5/OS vs.
AIX. Conversely i5/OS cannot run Oracle, so you buy what you need for an
operating environment.

My guess at $750 for a 17gb drive was based on information I dug up late
last year. Used prices change quite a bit over 60 days. It could be much
less now.
