FWIW, it was interesting to see that at the last COMMON, they had almost
   zero traffic in their booth. I don't know if they were allowed to buy
   booth space this time around. They're not on the exhibitor list.

     They're trying to foster the illusion of an independent user forum and
     an industry news magazine.  It would be like Microsoft buying CNET and
     forcing all the content to slant toward their marketing.  To me, it
     feels a lot like the 700 Club.

     I wonder whether they're flying below IBM's radar, or whether there's
     nothing they can do about it.  It's a shrewdly ambiguous marketing
     strategy.
