I am trying to change one drive of a 3582 fiber connected tape library from sequential to random for a short time. I am wanting to use the random mode and tape media library functions to quickly initialize a lot of new tapes with their cartridge ID as the volume ID.

What the iSeries does not see is the tape media library part, even though it was at one time in random mode, and I could use it as a library.

What do I have to do to get the iSeries to see the tape drive - in random mode - as a tape library, then change back to Sequential for our normal operations? Our 3570 is not a picky, just change the mode, and then vary off the tape drive descriptions, and vary on the media library description. Is the 3582 not as easy?

Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
