The old "It Depends."  Are you re-using the file descriptors if you
re-open the same file or are you opening and closing thousands of
different files?  I do believe there is a limit on file descriptors you
can create.  Now if you properly close them and reclaim the resources,
you should be able to open all the files in the world, a few at a time.

Does anybody know of any "brick walls" in OS/400, with 
regard to how many times a single job can open and close 
files? Note, I don't mean how many files can be open at a 
given time, but how many can be opened and closed in 
sequence, whether through UNIX-type I/O, or the IFS 
version of C standard I/O.
