I haven't done interactive programming for a while, but if a screen is in DSPW, the controlling program doesn't ever receive control to update the file. You can force a timeout on the display, and the controlling program would need to check if it's being ended - I think it's the SHTDN built-in function or opcode. It's the same issue if you set the automatic logout system value QINACTITV.
