Glenn--The cost of the 2 (sometimes 3) meals a day at Tech Conferences is included in the cost of attending. This probably does raise the cost of the conference fee, but you're not paying for meals at hotel/restaurant rates either, so your overall cost of attending may be less. Your mileage may vary.
The advantages of having meals included are: A) everyone gets fed at once-- no scrounging for restaurants B) everyone gets back from lunch at the same time-- no straggling back C) no 2 hour lunch breaks-- afternoon sessions all start on time
