Justin, I gotta say I agree with you. I for one plan to be working on this platform as long as I can, and I cannot do that unless I move forward with the technical trends. So what if I have to learn something new with every release.... /rant I feel that too many "professionals" have become career coasters, willing to simply rest on their 1982 laurels.... Go on, retire already and make way for the real programmers. Some people rant and rave at IBM because of the "Greying of COMMON", saying that there's no new blood coming onto the platform. In fact, there will be little new blood comming to the platform as long as these programmers are not allowed to embrace the new technologies. How does it sound to a prospective new-hire when they are told that "ILE is a no-no in this shop", or "no playing around with that Web server stuff". Why are there legions of programmers who have never seen embedded SQL? Why is ILE still called "the new stuff"? Where do you think these young IT pros are going to go? What do the clients of my employer have to do with the name change of IBM's system? The clients don't care what the system which runs their application is called, or even what system it happens to be. The clients care the system is up - which it is. The people who care what the system is called live here in tech land. I guess I'm not seeing what relevance the unnecessary and sarcastic comment about the customers of the company I work for has to do with the topic at hand here. Seems rather unnecessary to me. If the majority here love twinax, the AS/400 name, reel-to-reel tape, downloading PTFs over ECS, getting printed and bound manuals - perhaps I'm associating with the wrong crowd. -- Justin C. I'll skip mine on those who espouse meaningless changes simply for the sake of change.
