Some have suggested simply creating a new source file with the new record
length, and then copying all of the members.

WARNING: copying all members will result in new members with today's date/time
stamps for the create date and source member last changed date, so you will no
longer be able to easily tell which version of a member was used to create a
given *PGM or *MODULE, using the DSPPGM or DSPMOD commands or DSPOBJD *SERVICE
to view the source information in the OIR (object information repository).

Perhaps you can create the new source file(s) with a different name, and then
only copy members when you need the new (presumably longer) record length? For
example, are you converting from RPG/400 to RPG IV, so you will be changing the
source and recompiling?
