Hi DaveYou know I have to put in a <blatant verndor response> - we at RJS ( www.rjssoftware.com ) have a number of things that can make this work nicely. These include several converters for spooled files to CSV or Excel, etc. These are usually used in tandem with other report distribution products.
</blatant verndor response>There are also a couple Java ways of creating Excel files - then what you need is a way to get the data out of the spooled file, and that is where commercial products have their place - the heavy lifting is done.
As to native, there is always CPYSPLF to a data file - problem usually is that blank lines and bold and underline are funky. So more work again.
Selecting spooled files? You have the interactive WRKOUTQ and WRKSPLF commands, there are APIs that return lists that match various criteria like user who created the report, form type, user data, etc. - almost any of the attributes a spooled file can have.

Gang, What is the easiest and most functional way(s) to convert selected spoolfiles into the Excel format? What sorts of selection criteria capability can one expect? I understand there was a way to do it native via a command and the IFS but can't remember for sure. Also, understand there are suites of vendor tools. Recommendations? Functions/features?
