Hi Kirk,

This sounds like a fun project!

You would need to have the screen "register" itself with the server back by
the phone switch with info such as the user.  The server back by the phone
switch would know that a user is associated with an extension.  This screen
would then listen on a socket or on a data queue.  

The server back by the switch would interface w/the switch.  When a call
came through for a specific extension, the program back on the server would
then connect to the iSeries via sockets directly to the screen of the user
or a odbc/jdbc connection and drop an entry into a data queue that is
associated to the user and extension.  The entry could contain a customer
phone number (caller ID).  The program could then do a look up on the
customer and display the screen.  

This is pretty rough but you should get the idea.

We've done some outbound calling stuff with an Avaya phone switch but
nothing inbound.

I have a client running  very old legacy apps on a 170 running V5R3. They 
are looking at replacing their current phone system and the sales rep for 
the phone system asked them about integrating the phone system to their 
computers. Right now I know it takes an adapter from the Nortel to the 
network and a Windows based server/pc run Nortel's TAPI compliant 
interface. They reference customer apps like Goldmine and ACT. So here are 
a couple of questions I have...

#1 Anyone have experience with Nortel's products and the iSeries?
#2 What does it take, in general terms, to get an inbound phone call to 
say bring up  selected screen from an iSeries 5250 app?
#3 Anyone have  experience with other phone manufactures and integration 
with the iSeries?
