I haven't run a Samba server on iSeries (though, I have on FreeBSD). You have to create a configuration file (which is just a text file, you could create it in Notepad or EDTF or something like that).

The details would be on Samba's home page:

setup a samba server on iSeries ?

Are you referring to the QZLC_SERVERLIST envvar? Or is there an actual
PTF? I'd be interested in learning about the PTF if there is one.

Alternately, you can try running Samba on the iSeries via PASE. (I know
how much you like PASE, Rob). It's been my experience that Samba's
SMBCLIENT tool works a lot better than /QNTC.

Recently this list discussed a ptf that you could put on your i to take
much less time to drill down through the /qntc directory. The pro being
that the list comes in really fast. The con being that even machines that
are not QNTC friendly (W9x) show up.

That being said, we too are having a lot of issues with QNTC and opening
up some user's PC's.
