Good morning, Chaps.

I am looking for some impressions on using the IBM Directory Server for iSeries that came with our i5. My organization didn't know it was there and spent some time researching other solutions. I was able to justify the purchase of a system that can run OpenLDAP and authenticate its services from it, however, I have a preference for having the i5 be the primary source since accounts are already defined there.

The i5 was deployed by a contractor so I'm not sure what decisions he might have made for lack of guidance. When I go to the server through the iSeries Navigator I'm given the option to Start or Reconfigure the IBM Directory Server. I've been hesitant to try either since the instructions in the iSeries Information Center had i5 jargon that made me think I'd need some grasp of the underlying system to correctly perform the initial set-up.

There's no budget for this sort of thing though everyone realizes we could use it and it'd make things better. Any suggestions that involve making a purchase beyond 4 figures are wasted. Suggestions to bring in somebody to handle this for us are acceptable if accompanied with contact information for a properly vetted candidate.

I'm looking forward to hearing about your experiences with this.

Thanks,
Alfred
