It really doesn't matter. All of the things you have to remove are modular with convenient latches. Just remember when everything went and make sure you snap down the fan assembly good. I didn't and got a SRC code on the front panel. I had to open everything back up and snap the fan back down. Gotta love those "Customer Installs". Joel B. Would you suggest doing that memory operation before doing the rack mount? I'll be doing the following upgrades: -Add 2gb memory to existing 2gb -Add 6594 4 disk expansion cage -Adding 4 drives to 6594 cage -Adding DVD-RAM -Adding second power supply -Rack Mounting -Adding 5736 tape controller - PCI -Adding 5776 DASD controller - PCI Would there be any order to doing these that might work best? Remember, if you ordered an Express 520, you get the tower model with a rack conversion kit. Takes about 60 Minutes if it is your first time doing this conversion. Installing memory in 520 is also a very funny customer MES operation. You have to take almost the whole machine apart to install the memory. They aren't built as cleanly as an xSeries 346 or similar machines. -----Original Message----- From: midrange-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:midrange-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of ChadB@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Thursday, July 27, 2006 3:35 PM To: Midrange Systems Technical Discussion Subject: Re: Shipping a Rack I'd make them tell you exactly what's required to be done when it ships back to them to make sure you're covered... that sounds like a messy situation! Our new 520 Express setup is shipping separately from the rack it will be installed in. All the machine changes/additions we needed have to be done as a customer MES this time. Some of the value we used to get within the high price of the boxes is definitely going by the wayside. Does anyone have any tips to avoid damage to my system? IBM is picking up the shipping bill since they sent me the wrong rack so I really don't have a choice of shipper. Is there anything I should make sure is tied down other than maybe the cable guides and such?? Later.. Joel B.
