No, I'm not saying that, but IBM's diagnosis tools are much more precise in
internal DASD, as opposed to the blob of external DASD. They can look and
see if arms, cache or whatever is your issue, but when external DASD is
used, they just k now it's a DASD problem.

My Fortune 100 client who turned the 2TB into a boat anchor is in the
process of moving to all internal.

Al, you would have to know Dave's "top boss" - enough said!

Are you saying IBM SAN is not supportable through iSeries support when
attached to an iSeries?

Thanks

IMHO, one of the reasons that you buy an AS/400 is to have one number to
call when it breaks. One responsibility, one number. I wouldn't even
entertain an IBM SAN solution.

That's interesting... The 'top' boss here, who is doing everything he
can to get the iSeries replaced with MSFT, kicked out the IBM SAN and
replaced it with EMC. Reason: quality of service... Yikes! So, I guess
it is the waiting game to see if a boat is coming down the stream... :-(

I had a customer last spring that turned their EMC SAN into 2 TB of boat
anchor.

attaching an iSeries box to our EMC/Brocade SAN(symmetrix class).

Herb, EMC has its own rules for attaching i5 boxes. You will need their
assistance in creating the appropriate bin files for your EMC frame(s).
They can also tell you the exact i5 hardware they recommend for you
based on your estimates of the workload that will run on your new
system.

Good luck!
