Isn't Robot another option? It's probably got the largest customer base.

Document Management (now called Enterprise Content Management so it can cost
more) is a broad topic, but once you have converted the spool file to PDF or
TIFF you can store them in just about any DM/ECM system. There are some good
inexpensive or even free ECM systems available. Once you have them in some
system you might find that you need to print fewer copies of them. People
might just look at them on line.

An advantage of converting them to PDF (assuming that it is a text PDF
rather than a graphical PDF) rather than TIFF is that your DM system can
search the contents of the PDF without having to do OCR first. As someone
else has said there are a number of tools that will convert your output to
either TIFF or PDF or just about anything else for that matter.

Well, at the core you could start by just saving spool files. This,
and data queues, are included in V5R4. SAVLIB LIB(MYLIB) DEV(TAP01)

IBM peddles a product called InfoPrint Server (5722IP1) that does
all sorts of things. Including making pdf files out of spool files,
etc.
http://www.printers.ibm.com/internet/wwsites.nsf/vwwebpublished/ipserverhome_

Every Tom, Dick and Harry publishes a utility to just convert spool
files into PDF files.

IBM has a couple of things for "document management":
http://www-
306.ibm.com/software/info/contentmanagement/business/Documentmanagement/Docum
entmanagement/index.html
But when you search IBM's web site for document management you get a
few hits. 1 - 10 of 2,926 results

I let the users know that we do NOT save spool files. That they are
to be aware that they could disappear in a DR situation. And that
we automatically purge ANY spool file that is over x days old - no
exceptions.

Content management solutions for spool files

What, if anything, are you using for content or document management
for your spool files?

We have some reports that are generated for a specific location
(about 200 seperate locations) and printed at the seperate
locations. Many of these reports are not easily reproduced. We often
get requests to reprint these. Most are saved in an outq for a while
and then cleaned up later. We want to investigate more robust
options for managing this.
