In case the error is needed...here it is:

[SQL0199] Keyword WHILE not expected. Valid tokens: IF. Cause . . . . . :
The keyword WHILE was not expected here. A syntax error was detected at
keyword WHILE. The partial list of valid tokens is IF. This list assumes
that the statement is correct up to the unexpected keyword. The error may
be earlier in the statement but the syntax of the statement seems to be
valid up to this point. Recovery . . . : Examine the SQL statement in the
area of the specified keyword. A colon or SQL delimiter may be missing. SQL
requires reserved words to be delimited when they are used as a name.
Correct the SQL statement and try the request again.

I think I understand what you are trying to do....you're not even close.

Take a look at the SELECT INTO statement in the SQL Reference.

Subject: Assigning Multiple Variable Based On Table Row

How do you assign multiple variables at the same time on an
AS400?  I've
looked through the SQL reference for V5R2 and I'm not seeing
what I need.

I am getting syntax errors on:

  SELECT @STREET1=ADDRESS1, @STREET2=ADDRESS2, @CITY=CITY,
@STATE=STATE,
@ZIP=ZIP, @ADDRESSNAME=ADDRESSNAME, @ADDRESSTYPE=ADDRESSTYPE
 , @TENANTID=TENANTID, @LEASEID=LEASEID, @PHONENUMBER=PHONENUMBER,
@FAXNUMBER=FAXNUMBER, @FIRSTNAME=FIRSTNAME, @MIDDLENAME=MIDDLENAME
  , @LASTNAME=LASTNAME, @NICKNAME=NICKNAME, @SURNAME=SURNAME,
@SUFFIXNAME=SUFFIXNAME, @HIWCONTACTTYPE=CONTACTTYPE
  FROM DEVDTA.CONTACTIMPORT WHERE ID=@COUNTER;

Thanks in advance.
