It's also very interesting, in that it apparently uses neither the QtmmSendMail API nor JavaMail; instead, it appears to use socket API calls directly, and essentially build everything from scratch. Thus, it doesn't require SMTP to be running on the same box, and (although our main mail server won't relay directly from it) probably doesn't even care what the SMTP server it connects to is running under.

He did it all in ILE RPG.

In ILE RPG that will compile and run under V4R4, maybe earlier.

I can only conclude that "uzaemon" did this as an exercise to see if it was *possible* to do it "the hard way" from RPG. In much the same way that, on another project, I wrote not one, but two, recursive-descent parsers in ILE RPG (albeit with ILE C scanners).
