HMC shared session can be iSeries Access 5250, not just Putty. Makes it a lot easier to use. See here: http://tinyurl.com/fas6c Also, to get the HMC GUI downloaded to your PC, go to this link: http://yourhmcname/remote_client.html -- Justin C. The HMC shared session simply requires a download of a free Putty client. I think I have a faq or something somewhere on how to set this up. I want to set up, but haven't yet, the full GUI remotely. Others on the list have done so. This will allow us to fully start a downed lpar. Or the whole blinking rack itself. One thing to keep in mind is that not only do you need to keep your i5/os lpars up to date with ptf's etc, but you also need to upgrade your FSP firmware. IIRC, you'd need PC-Anywhere or the equivalent to remotely access the PC running Ops-Console correct? What about LAN console? Does it make since to use PC anywhere there too? Kind of like using an HMC shared session? Charles Wilt -- iSeries Systems Administrator / Developer Mitsubishi Electric Automotive America ph: 513-573-4343 fax: 513-398-1121

Always amazed how they get that much of iSeries Access going on a machine in totally restricted state. If your box is in restricted state, you won't be able to connect to it using Management Central or any other part of iNav. You need remote access to the console 1) HMC 2) LAN Console 3) twin-ax card in a PC with PC-Anywhere.
